At bss we specialise in providing information and handling responses on behalf of our clients and their target audiences. The subjects covered are diverse, ranging from social, health, educational, and public service issues through to those of a more entertaining or commercial nature.

Whatever the information, bss provides a vital link between our clients and those they serve, be they customers, supporters, the general public, viewers or listeners.

The purpose of bss is to enable people to take action to improve the quality of their lives and society, through the provision and management of information and advice.  We achieve this aim by providing comprehensive, quality, specialist contact centre and information services to our customers.

In addition to the charitable activities undertaken by bss in furtherance of our objectives, we also operate a trading subsidiary which provides quality contact centre and fulfilment services to the commercial sectors.

Our People

We have over 800 staff across seven sites in the UK and are accredited with the Investors in People Award. Our Senior Management Team is responsible to a Board of Trustees.

Our History

bss was set up in 1975 when the BBC launched its groundbreaking adult literacy campaign 'On the Move'. In 1977 it became a separate organisation with the remit to enable people to take action to improve the quality of their lives and society, through the provision and management of impartial information and advice.

In October 2007 bss purchased Scottish based Capital Communications Group (CCG) thus expanding the range of services we are able to offer. CCG is a proven leader in the supply of direct marketing services throughout the UK encompassing contact centre, fulfilment and response handling services.

bss is a charity registered in Scotland SCO40511 and in England and Wales, 282264. It is a company limited by guarantee, registration number 1548958, VAT number 674782293.

bss  is also a member of the Telephone Helplines Association (THA), membership number 95/196V.
